Turn cooking into a time of play and connection with your kids

In the increasingly hectic shuffle of life, it can be tough to find a time to connect with our kids.

We’re running from work, to school, to practice, to bed, while finding something quick to feed them. All the while, our time with them at home is racing by.

What would it feel like to intentionally set aside a moment or two each week to slow down and be truly present with your kids? Face to face. Eye to eye. To teach them the skills they need for a lifetime of health? To see them get excited for veggies & new foods? To laugh giant belly laughs together while making something tasty?

It’s possible.

There's a world of difference between insisting on someone's doing something and establishing an atmosphere in which that person can grow into wanting to do it.

Gifts We Can Give Our Children

Cooking together offers a unique opportunity to:

  • Model a healthy relationship with food and cooking
  • Teach them new skills while embracing the value of mistakes
  • Build their confidence and self esteem
  • Confront our own blockages like fear, perfectionism, guilt, and shame in the kitchen

Every family experience begins with an in-depth conversation with the parents to understand the full picture and create a personalized plan that supports everyone.

What parents are saying about Hey Food!

I really enjoyed being creative as a group in the kitchen and was encouraged that both kids tried foods that I hadn’t seen them try before.

This is a great offering for families to slow down and connect in a fun way that builds life skills and lasting memories.

The Classes

Classes are kept playful, supportive, encouraging, and low pressure. Everything is framed as an experiment and opportunity to learn.

The entire plan is custom-built for your family, factoring in everyone’s age, skill level, dietary needs and time constraints. Usually we’ll be cooking together, though sometimes we’ll even take a field trip to a local farm to help your children feel more comfortable with the veggies we’ll be eating.

I offer in-person sessions in the Boulder / Denver area as well as virtual sessions for everyone else.

For ages 2 – 102.
It’s never too early—or too late—to start.

The Food

I have hundreds of kid tested & approved recipes for a wide range of ages and eaters. And, as much as possible, I love for the menus to be co-creation with the kids to get their buy-in and spark their inherent creativity.

The most common feedback I hear from families is their astonishment at how many different fresh veggies their kids tried. If we lead with an open mind and an open hand, kids will often surprise us.

Also, if someone in your family is going through a health issue and needs to change their diet, I can help. I’ve got extensive personal and coaching experience with many different diets – gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, whole food, paleo, vegan, etc… Whatever you need, we can do it.

My cooking is rooted in the philosophies of Intuitive Eating and the 80/20 Rule, combined with a Mediterranean style diet – whole foods, plant forward, lean meats and lots of local, organic ingredients with vibrant flavors that pop.

Hi, I'm Kyle

Teaching kids is in my blood. I’ve got an elementary age son and both my parents were career public school teachers. I’ve also worked at a daycare and elementary school, coached youth soccer teams, managed musicians, and volunteer regularly in schools explaining the importance of eating the rainbow to kids K-5.

The only thing more fun for me than working with kids in the kitchen, is watching them and their parents beam with pride while sharing a meal they made together.
